Rompetrol (KMG International) has supported the development of the first inclusive playground in Prahova County, located in Parcul Municipal Vest – Zona Seră in Ploieşti, marking another contribution to an important community where the Group operates. The project was carried out in partnership with the Ploieşti City Hall and the Pădurea Copiilor Association.

The 1,256 sqm space offers children in the community a modern, safe, and accessible environment for everyone, regardless of age or abilities, adapted to all types of disabilities – physical, sensory, cognitive, and neurodivergent.

“Through this project, we are offering children a safe, friendly, and inclusive space where everyone can enjoy play and nature. Supporting local communities is a key objective for Rompetrol, and investments in education, health, and environmental protection are concrete ways in which we contribute to a better future,” said Sorin Graure, General Manager of Rompetrol Rafinare.

“The first inclusive playground in Ploieşti, built in Parcul Municipal Vest, is an important project for our city and a concrete example of collaboration between the public administration, the private sector, and civil society. It is a step in the right direction toward revitalizing Parcul Municipal Vest — a space with great potential that must be returned to the community and put to good use. Through the involvement of Rompetrol and the Pădurea Copiilor Association, we managed to transform an unused area into a safe, accessible, and friendly space for all children, regardless of age or abilities. I appreciate Rompetrol’s support for the Ploieşti community and their openness to investing in projects that improve the quality of life in the city. Partnerships like this show what we can achieve when the private sector and public administration work together. Thank you again for your openness and involvement,” said Mihai Poliţeanu, Mayor of Ploieşti.

The project included the installation of a special surface ensuring full accessibility, including for wheelchair users, the addition of safe and inclusive play equipment, the implementation of a modern irrigation system, as well as the rehabilitation of the green area and the modernization of the tree alignment. Thanks to the 28 species of trees, shrubs, and aromatic plants — from silver maple and red oak to a sensory path with lavender and rosemary — children can explore and experience the beauty of nature through all their senses.

The playground’s design follows universal accessibility principles, featuring a 283 sqm EPDM shock-absorbing surface for safety and efficient drainage, barrier-free paths for wheelchairs and strollers, equipment adapted for various ability levels, and rest and supervision areas dedicated to parents and caregivers.

The space stands out through a variety of special elements, such as the central Fun Land complex with an educational panel and multiple play options, the inclusive carousel and sensory experience equipment, an interactive area with trumpets and drums for auditory stimulation, a double swing adapted for paired play, a sand-based fitness area with buckets that foster creativity, and a sensory pathway with cube carousels that provide both safety and protection.

In Ploieşti, the Group operates the Vega Refinery, the oldest refinery in Romania, with 120 years of experience. The refinery has evolved from a traditional crude oil processing unit into a producer and supplier of high value-added special products, obtained exclusively from semi-finished materials delivered by the Petromidia Refinery. Rompetrol also has a significant downstream presence in Prahova County, operating eight fuel distribution stations.

In 2022, Rompetrol completed the construction of four playgrounds in Ploieşti, located on Grigore Cantacuzino Street, Triumfului Street, Griviţei Street, and Cameliei Street, offering the community and children a total arranged area of 1,269 sqm equipped with numerous high-quality play structures.

Rompetrol (KMG International) is currently carrying out the development and modernization of nine more playgrounds in Ploieşti, located on Poştei Street (corner with Praga Street), Grindului Street, Cameliei Street – block 111, Tudor Vladimirescu Street (corner with Popa Fărcaş Street), Mărăşeşti Street (between Mărăşeşti Street and Aleea Ciucului), Soldat Arhip Nicolae Street (area of blocks 76, 66, 96), Bucureşti Boulevard – blocks 15B–15D, Aleea Streiului – block 119 – Câineni Park, and in Câmpiniţa Park.

The Group contributes to the development of communities in Prahova County through projects that support education, culture, and the environment. The company backs programs such as “Chess in Schools”, debates sessions, critical thinking projects, investments in schools, and donations of musical instruments to educational institutions.
