Rompetrol supports arts education in Ploieşti through the donation of musical instruments

Rompetrol continues to invest in education and the development of young talents in the communities where it operates.

Recently, the company acquired a professional acoustic piano, which was donated to the “Carmen Sylva” Art High School in Ploieşti. This donation directly supports the over 200 students at the high school who study piano, contributing to their artistic development and preparation for exams, competitions, and performances.

“Through such projects, Rompetrol reaffirms its commitment to education, culture, and community development by offering students access to modern resources that can unlock their potential and creativity. The company actively supports the transformation of Romania’s education system by contributing to real opportunities for students from both urban and rural areas.” – Florian Pop, general manager Rompetrol Rafinare.

This initiative complements a previous project carried out in 2024 in partnership with the Romanian Association of Luthier Artists (AALR), through which the students received a range of string instruments — violins, violas, cellos, and double basses — handcrafted by master luthiers from Reghin, a town renowned for its tradition in instrument making.

“The piano we received is a real support for our students and a significant step toward providing high-quality artistic education. For a future musician, a high-performance instrument is essential, as it allows us to refine the children's talent — a talent that knows no bounds. We are grateful to Rompetrol for their ongoing support; their contribution is crucial in the artistic development of these young people,” said Mircea Iţcuş, Director of the “Carmen Sylva” Art High School in Ploieşti.

For more than 16 years, Rompetrol has been investing in educational and social projects that support the development of local communities, acknowledging the essential role education plays in shaping a sustainable future.

In Ploieşti, Rompetrol operates the Vega refinery – the longest-standing facility of its kind in Romania, in continuous operation since 1905. The year 2025 will mark the 120th anniversary of its activity. Vega remains the only domestic producer of bitumen and n-hexane, playing a key role in the local economy and preserving refining expertise in Romania.
