State of the art LPG recovery system
With an investment effort of 4.6 million dollars, the project ensures an improvement of the production flow and a substantial reduction of the sulfur dioxide emissions.
"It is a unique project at the level of Romania and is part of the Group's strategy of continuous modernization of the operational processes at the level of the production units - the Petromidia Navodari and Vega Ploieşti refineries. The implementation of modern solutions directly and indirectly supports the strategic directions for increasing the degree of protection of the environment and the continuous reduction of the impact on the local communities”, says Felix Crudu Tesloveanu, General Manager of Rompetrol Rafinare.
The liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) recovery facility is designed to remove organic sulfur compounds and hydrocarbons from coking gases before they are sent to desulfurization plants and then into the refinery's fuel gas system.
With a processing capacity of a maximum flow rate of 16,000 Nm3 / h, the new plant ensures an improvement of the production flow through the recovery and combustion of gases, but also the significant reduction of sulfur from the gases discharged to the refinery baskets - well below the limit imposed by the European Environment regulations.
Designed by IPIP Ploieşti and built in Săvineşti - Neamţ county, the column has a height of 32.8 meters, a weight of over 30. The installation and integration in the parameters were made by the Rominserv specialists, the technological solutions provider of the KMG International group.
Rompetrol Rafinare is one of the largest contributors to Romania's state budget, paying over 1.5 billion dollars annually. The company operates Petromidia refineries (the largest and one of the most important units in the Black Sea), Vega (the most long-lasting refinery in Romania, the only one in the country capable of producing bitumen and hexane), but also the only Petrochemical Division (the sole internal producer of polypropylene and polyethylene).
The reduction of sulfur dioxide is an objective of the KMG International Group, in line with the provisions of the integrated environmental permit. This approach is closely related to the strategy of development and growth of production, through the processing of crude oil, but also with the commitment made to demonstrate the sustainable performances regarding the environmental protection, by reducing the impact of the activities on the environment.
Owned by Kazakhstan's national oil and gas company KazMunayGas, KMG International operates major operations in refining, petrochemicals, retailing, trading, extraction and industrial services in 12 major markets. The group operated at the end of 2019 a number of 964 points of sale of oil products (network of own stations, partner stations, mobile stations: express, internal bases of 9 and 20 cubic meters).
