Rompetrol Rafinare - Strategic Pillar of the Refining Industry in Romania

Rompetrol Rafinare is KMG International's most significant asset in Romania and one of the essential pillars of the national energy sector.

The company operates two of Romania’s four operational refineries:

• Petromidia, the largest refinery in Romania, is located in Năvodari and is one of the most modern refining facilities in Southeast Europe.
• Vega, the longest-operating refinery, with a tradition spanning more than 120 years, is located in Ploiești. It is the sole producer in Romania of polymer-modified bitumen and n-hexane, as well as a major exporter of solvents in the Black Sea region.
• and the only petrochemicals division in the country, making a decisive contribution to maintaining and developing Romania’s national refining and petrochemical capacities.

Following the acquisition of Rompetrol’s assets by KazMunayGas, the national oil and gas company of Kazakhstan, the strategic investment direction has focused on consolidating and increasing domestic refining capacity, as well as on the efficient integration of Romanian operations into the Group’s international value chain.

In this context, direct investments totaling USD 2.7 billion were carried out in Romania during the 2007–2025 period for the development and modernization of refining and petrochemical operations, as well as for the expansion of the logistics infrastructure required for crude oil supply and the distribution of finished products in Romania and across the Black Sea region. These programs were initiated and implemented starting in 2008, amid a challenging global economic environment marked by the financial crisis and heightened volatility in the oil and gas sector, thereby demonstrating the Group’s long-term commitment to the Romanian market.

Rompetrol Rafinare has been listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange since 2004. As a publicly traded company, it complies with stringent financial reporting and regulatory requirements set by the capital markets framework, thereby strengthening investor, partner, and other relevant stakeholders' confidence.
