Minimizing emissions and waste

Global warming has become a phenomenon that every responsible company should pay due attention to. We strive every day to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions, achieve significant reductions in the quantities of waste generated and enhance recycling, reduce the consumption of energy in our production and transmission facilities, and afford long-term protection to biodiversity.

We focus greater attention on compliance with the best practices advanced in the quality, health, safety and environment (QHSE) management systems.

The permits for greenhouse gas emission were issued in 2013 and are valid until the end of 2020 for the two refineries operated by Rompetrol Rafinare - Petromidia and Vega.

In the beginning of each year, we employ an external company to run an audit and review calculation of the CO2 emissions for the previous year.

In 2018, Petromidia refinery (including the petrochemical plant) reduced its NOx emissions, from 514 tons in 2017 to 492 tons in 2018.

However, an increase in SO2 emissions was recorded, from 274 tons in 2018 to 291 tons in 2018. On a similar trend, Vega Refinery recorded higher NOx emissions in 2018, 86.51 tons, while SO2 emissions were lower, at 26.21 tons.
Petromidia and the petrochemical facility, the largest local production facilities, reduced their CO2 emissions by aprox. 13,000 tons in 2018.
The waste recovery rate for Petromidia Refinery in 2018 was 89.6%, with a waste generation rate of 1.6 kg of waste/ton of raw material processed.
