Minimizing emissions and waste
Global warming has become a phenomenon that every responsible company should pay due attention to. We strive every day to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions, achieve significant reductions in the quantities of waste generated and enhance recycling, reduce the consumption of energy in our production and transmission facilities, and afford long-term protection to biodiversity.
We focus greater attention on compliance with the best practices advanced in the quality, health, safety and environment (QHSE) management systems.
The permits for greenhouse gas emission were issued in 2013 and are valid until the end of 2020 for the two refineries operated by Rompetrol Rafinare - Petromidia and Vega.
In the beginning of each year, we employ an external company to run an audit and review calculation of the CO2 emissions for the previous year.
In 2017, the total emissions of the 3 production facilities (Petromidia, Vega and petrochemistry) dropped by close to 5%, while the SO2 and NOx emissions remained at the levels of 2016.
Petromidia and the petrochemical facility, the largest local production facilities, reduced their emissions by 48,200 tons in 2017.
The recovery rate of the waste generated by Petromidia Refinery in 2017 was 91%, boosting from 67% in 2015.
For each ton of raw material processed, the refinery generated 3 kg of waste, considering the record outputs reported by Petromidia in 2017:
5.66 million tons of feedstock, and an output 4.88 million tons of white products, of which:
- 1.46 million tones of gasoline
- 2.74 million tones of diesel
A project of great impact in 2017 was the 100% emptying of catch pit no. 2; emptying of the historical residues in catch pit no. 1 was also stated in October 2017.
